Why are we told to kill our cures?

Writer's picture: Hannah Champion Hannah Champion

Weeds have always been sold to us as an invasive plants that kills, suffocates and spoils other plants/vegetables/flowers whilst also being an eyesore. We are sold weed killers which pollute the soils making it weak in nutrients for healthy plant life growth as well as the bugs we need for a healthy ecosystem in the garden. When actually, dandelions naturally cleanse the soil it is in, as when the soil is healthy enough it goes away naturally. In addition to being essential to providing vital nutrients to our soils, dandelion itself holds many natural properties which are excellent for human health, in particular, the human heart and valves. Dandelion can actually be consumed as a tea, or the flower heads and petals can be added to salads and eaten raw, making them a very pretty addition to your usual salad, very much NOT an eyesore at all.

Besides dandelions, there are thistles, nettle and most weeds which all carry vital health benefits, so why are we told we should kill them?
