Perceptive Parenting
This project would aim at creating a parenting course for either parents to be or current parents and would like a better way to connect with their child. This would be provided through a course which can either be purchased, or ideally be government funded to be encouraged throughout hospitals and related locations.
The idea of The Perceptive Parenting course is to develop an understanding relationship between parent and child. Key features of the course will highlight psychological studies on babies, toddlers and young children which emphasise the developmental stages the child goes through and at what ages they can be expected to either, display certain behaviours or have capabilities based on the averages. One prime example, is what age emotional regulation is possible in children, as this is not currently well understood. It will also put children's emotional welfare at the forefront, alongside the expected basics, to help form a healthy connection between parent and child. To help develop children's understanding of emotions and how to express those in a healthy way, elements of gentle parenting will be featured.
This is a challenging course for parents more so than children, as it will perhaps feature a way of parenting which they themselves were not exposed to and may require the parent to build some perseverance, patience but most importantly, empathy in emotional understanding of themselves and someone other than themselves. Some have even used gentle parenting in their own families as a form of healing for their own inner child.
This course will be developed and presented as a program similar to that of birthing classes currently in place, which mostly focus on the physical needs of a baby, birthing and early stages of mothering. This course will be for all parties involved and can even extend to professional persons who work in areas which are child-focused.
